Pittsburgh Interior Designer Sara Dahl of Dahlhaus Design

Sara Dahl - Principal Designer/Owner

Sara Dahl transforms rooms into magazine-worthy living spaces. Her superpower is seeing a room's potential and making it a reality, while tailoring the design to the client's needs and budget. Clients always feel at ease with her thanks to her calming personality, her product knowledge, and her close attention to detail.

Sara spent many years doing fabric design & product development for the Home Textiles industry, where she honed her project management and problem-solving skills. During that time, she also began renovating her own homes, and helping her friends & family with their home design projects. She worked with contractors for the bigger projects, but also did a lot of smaller projects herself ...including making upholstered headboards, upholstered cornices & home-made drapery panels, painting murals on walls & ceilings, and removing wallpaper & carpeting. That led to designing kitchens & bathrooms, built-in shelving, fireplace surrounds, and home exteriors. Eventually she decided to leave the corporate world behind and turn her passion for Interior Design into a full-time business.

Dahlhaus Design Co. is a full-service interior design studio offering clients customized spaces that are both stylish and practical. Sara believes each product selection made for your home should be visually pleasing, but also provide function, durability, and comfort. As a busy mom of two little boys, she understands how to create a space that is easy to maintain. With each project, the goal is to create a home that blends the personal style of the homeowner(s) with the architecture of the home. She loves combining old & new, and working with a variety of materials, to add texture and interest.

Sara is a Pennsylvania native who grew up in the Gibsonia neighborhood of Pittsburgh, and spent the early part of her career in Philadelphia. Today, she lives in Pittsburgh’s Franklin Park neighborhood, with her husband and two boys.

“Working with Sara was an absolute dream!  I know what I like when I see it, but I had no clue how to get from how my kitchen previously looked to how I wanted it to look. I really loved the size of my kitchen, and the appliances & counters were in good shape, but I couldn’t figure out how to modernize it and introduce my style without spending a fortune.

Sara made the whole process so easy. She narrowed down decisions, so I just had a few carefully selected things to choose from rather than an infinite number. She found and vetted reputable contractors and scheduled appointments. It really eased my mind.

Prior to working with Sara my kitchen felt nice, but dated, and didn’t feel like it was mine. Now, my kitchen is bright, modern and classy. I feel like I’m at home now in my space. I want to host dinner parties often, and I have more of a desire to cook and keep my kitchen neat at baseline.

I didn’t really have any concerns about hiring a designer besides cost, but it was well worth the price! If you’re thinking about hiring a designer, definitely do it! And if you’re in Pittsburgh, hire Sara at Dahlhaus.”
